An evening of songs, music and poetry featuring mainly the works of Robert Burns takes place in Kilbirnie Masonic Hall on Friday July 30 at 7.30 pm and tickets are £10 at the door. Entitled: Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect, it features Scottish singer/songwriter and keen Burnsian, Douglas McQueen Hunter, and members of his Scottish folk group, The Court of Equity part of popular folk group, The Picts.
Apart from some of their own compositions and some traditional songs the band will be performing mainly the works of Robert Burns, including his best loved songs and pieces which are less popular: The Deils Awa’ Wi’ the Exciseman, Tibbie Fowler, Rattlin’ Roarin’ Willie, My Luve is like a Red, Red Rose, Will ye go to the Indies my Mary?, My Bonnie Mary and McPherson’s Farewell.
Bar facilities will be available at this concert. The band will also be joined on the evening by Jim Thompson of the Kilbirnie Rosebery Burns Club, whose recitations of poetry are among the finest to be heard anywhere in Scotland.
